This project is a bilingual visual interpretation of Amin Maalouf’s essay In the Name of Identity, Violence, and the Need to Belong. By taking excerpts from the book, emphasizing certain quotes, and interpreting others, two entities are placed in comparison to one another. “Poised between two countries, two or three languages and several cultural traditions.” The central concept of this artist book that is weaved into the

book is duality indicating that we have no definite connection
to one place or another. These boxes sometimes appear or disintegrate into the spreads. It is through a combination of digital and analog work, ranging from the use of Letraset and digital type, analog and digital photography, collage, and acrylic paint, that this duality is portrayed.

This was my Final Year Project at the American University of Beirut.
